Notes From the Vineyard - April 2026
April has brought a welcome shift in pace across the vineyard and orchard, with long stretches of dry weather beginning to settle over the valley. At times, strong easterly winds swept across the site, quickly drying the surface of the ground and reminding us how rapidly conditions can change at this time of year.
The orchard has responded beautifully to the warmer weather, with particularly dense apple blossom appearing throughout the trees. Across the vineyard, the vines have continued to push forward strongly too, with early shoot growth now well underway. After the long winter months spent pruning, tidying and preparing the land, it is rewarding to finally see everything beginning to come back into life.
Spring has also brought plenty of activity from the resident birds and wildlife around Trenant. Geese have been sitting on nests throughout the fields, while our incubators have also seen some success this year. We are now rearing around fifty goslings and ducklings, all of which seem to be growing remarkably quickly by the day.
Away from the vines themselves, much of April has been spent preparing for a very exciting new chapter here at Saints Way Wines. Work has continued steadily behind the scenes as we get ready to welcome visitors to the vineyard, guesthouse and café space for coffees, lunches, cream teas and, of course, our first wine tastings.
This year’s release includes four white wines, produced in a limited run of approximately 4,000 bottles. As a first vintage, these wines represent an important milestone for the vineyard, and we are very much looking forward to sharing them with both visitors and locals through the tastings over the coming months.
With the vines growing strongly and the site beginning to welcome guests for the season ahead, April has felt like the true beginning of something new here in the valley.
